Last night's riding
Jan. 23rd, 2004 02:14 pmThursday night, four of us rode. Chris on a horse who's name I've forgotten. Stephen on King. Frank on Brawny. And me on Mariah.
King and Mariah were especially spirited. Frank had a moment where Brawny broke into a canter but he rode it out comfortably. I got Mariah to a nice job... but wanted her to walk. Rick complimented me on my seat. Slowing her down pissed her off and she nearly bucked.
Once we got the horses calmer in a nice jog things went better. I tried to get Mariah to Canter and only succeeded in a single stride twice. Why? Apparently I had the reigns too tight and she thought I was slowing her down. UGH! As soon as Rick pointed that out, I got a nice six strides out of her at a canter and didn't panic. Felt good to canter again.
I could have rode Brawny, but then a) Frank would have wound up on the pain in the ass Elsie which would have made the whole ride bad and b) I'm not learning much on Brawny.
So I thought the night went well. I wore some cold weather gear which meant I was physically more comfortable. Looking forward to next week.
