Life with Dogs
Feb. 11th, 2004 09:00 amTuesday night I had obedience class with Joey. I think I'm proving I'm not super good at animal handling considering my horse experiences and now this. But I'm starting to get the hang of it.
Part of training the dog is getting his attention and focus. I think all Beagles have ADD. But I did get Joey following me around the store and sitting. But he seemed bored with me and paid more attention to the instructor when she gave commands. In addition, he was distracted by other dogs and anything with a scent.
He managed to re-open his wound again. I didn't take him to the vet again but put the e-collar back on him. (I had taken it off for the class and left it off for a little while after since he was happily playing and never caught him licking himself.) The external wound appears to have split but was already healing this morning. Do they make doggie Neosporin?
This morning, he sounded like he was going to cough something up but never did.
I also got him one of those "Kong" toys and liver paste for it to play with. Should keep him happy throughout the day.
Monday night he was picking up a bit of rawhide in the cone and flinging it across the room and chasing it. Not sure he was doing it intentionally but it was still amusing. He went after my robe and it wasn't until morning I found out the rawhide had managed to find it's way into my pocket.
And then last night he was trying to bury his new rawhide in my chainmaile. I think I'm going to make him some armor out of aluminum. But I have to finish my own and
