This past weekend, I had the amazing experience of going to a horse auction. The area they run the horses in is fairly small, in my opinion, and it's amazing what they get these horses to do. It's mostly western/ranch horses so it's also primarily Quarter Horses. It's a great chance to see what some really well trained horses can do. But as one can imagine, they're all being auctioned for a reason. Sometimes the owner can't afford to keep them. Sometimes, they owner has lost interest. Sometimes it's just a dealer selling off extra horses. You get to walk up and down the aisles to see all kinds of horses. A lot of what you see if stuff you DON'T want. There are some horses with major issues, cribbing, kicking, behavior problems. Some of the horses are even drugged to make them more docile. So it's good to check them out in advance. Some just have minor conformation problems. This is really only important in a show ring where that sort of thing matters.

Anyway, to make things more interesting, Paragon Jousting has a new horse. Scott realized it was time to add another horse. This one is, technically, a Paint but is solid black except for white socks and a white stripe on his nose. He's roughly the size of Mister Mister and rides like a dream. The moment he stepped out, everyone from Paragon thought he was gorgeous. And he rode great too. He's a young horse and he may still grow more but he'll be a great matchup and based on our experience with other former ranch horses (Diablo), he's likely to get up to speed VERY quickly. The best part of that will be the ability to have an extra horse for Master of the List at shows like The Vermont Renaissance Festival.

The new horse, Petes Sure Peppy, arrived at Camp Paragon on Sunday and his training should begin soon. Thanks to my recent lack of employment, I am going out during the week to help with some horse training. This is helping my riding to progress faster and I may be on horseback (although not jousting) in some upcoming shows.

This qualifies as a "Good Weekend(tm)" for me. :)

EDIT: Corrected the new horse's name.
