And.... breathe......
Aug. 16th, 2006 08:00 pmIt's been a crazy couple of weeks. Between FD duties for CTRF, shows for Paragon Jousting and that pesky job of mine, I've been busy.
Paragon just finished a weekend back in Cairo, NY doing the Catskill Mountain Renaissance Faire. I've been asked to do their new website which I may just be doing.
The shows were great. We did four (that's right four) shows each day. First show was the usual gaming joust show. I was MoL on the ground for this and we were performing, more or less, in the round. There were vendors lining the 6 foot high fencing which kind of forced the crowds (3000 people over two days) to one side, but not entirely.
Then Frank and I did an armored demo. Really the first time I've had to be a primary on one of those. Frank has more knowledge on the subject than I and is a way better fighter, but I've got the showmanship. :) We need to refine things. Scott told me our fights looked really good, which always feels good since I feel like I'm flopping around out there. He even pointed out some particularly good
Third show was back to the horses... it combined some aspects of the gaming joust, crest and baton and then a light armored joust with light lances. First time we've added this into a Paragon performance and it went great. (For anyone keeping score... Scott 3, Becca 1.)
Final show was, of course, the heavy armored joust. Frank and I were fighting sans helmets in this show as well. I thought it went well. We communicated very well and the fights weren't just giant slugfests. Once again, Frank showed how good a fighter he is.
Everyone seemed to be happy with us. I was in a bit of a funk on Saturday due to being worried about
scullerywench who had broken down on the way to the show. She called to let me know and I missed the part where her phone was dying. Being unable to reach her left me worried but I later found out she was safe and sound, if not a little worse for wear. Our attempts to mount a rescue mission were thwarted by a cell phone battery.
After Cairo, we travelled to Kent, CT to perform for campers. This was a first for me and it was quite the experience. Nothing like watching a horse cantering toward you with an army of screaming girls or boys in tow... some passing the horses. The kids were great, loud and excited. We did some games as well as crest and baton (Scott 4, Becca 1). Then the final joust which everyone loved. Lance bits everywhere. :)
Then it was time for the long journey home... and back to work in the morning... and a riding lesson after that... and tonight... well... a little relaxation and catch-up.
Hoping to get some decent sleep tonight. This weekend... back to the FD grind.
