To my dog loving friends...
Mar. 19th, 2007 01:37 pmOne of my many dog loving friends had a dog related post up on their journal today and I was going to post this in response to that, but since I have many dog loving friends, I thought I'd post more generally.
I accidentally found a show on The National Geographic Channel called The Dog Whisperer. This is a great show for anyone who loves dogs.
The first episodes I saw showed this guy taking some seemingly vicious dogs of the breeds most people fear (Pit-bull and Rottweiler) and turning them into some of the most gentle dogs I've seen. He simply knew what needed to be done and was pretty fearless. A lot of it came down to a) bored dog, b) proper domination, c) discipline vs punishment.
Anyway, I highly recommend the show, it's absolutely wonderful. And while many of the techniques would be unsafe to try on your own, there are some things which can be kept in mind and anyone can use.
