NEW YORK -- Darth Vader is coming to "The O.C." The trailer for "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" will premiere during the March 10 episode of the Fox show.

Do they think fans of the one are fans of the other? I don't quite see the cross over.

I've been watching the positioning for SW:RotS, and I just can't figure it out. They've tried to position a lot of "premium" content on the official Star Wars site behind the subscriber-only "Hyperspace" branding, but the bar for what qualifies as premium is pretty freaking low (I'm not paying to see Ewan McGreggor drinking coffee in front of a blue screen), and now this. They must be confusing Star Wars fans with Star Trek fans, who tend to be a different (if often overlapping) breed of fanwanks.

OTOH, they've been savaged by so many life-long fans for the dreck which was episodes I and II that this may be their best hope for good box office turnout. I know lots of people who are going to see ep III out of a sense of duty, not because they're really really psyched about what George has done with the franchise.

I would guess that they are not trying attract fans of SW but get a few other people that may not otherwise care about it. If they focus on the "soap opera" aspect of SW in this trailer, then it may get some of the OC crowd interested.

OR they are hoping that by putting the SW trailer on during OC they can get a few more people watching OC than normal and maybe some of them will come back next week when they see just how good it is (HA!).

I'm guessing they are hoping to grab those pre-teens who plaster their rooms with pics of the OC stars with Hayden Christensen's dreamy good looks. Marketing doesn't always make sense in the obvious. Example: Why would our local urban/hip-hop station advertise during "Everybody Loves Raymond"? Doesn't seem like a good fit, but there'e probably more people watching reruns of "Raymond" than anything on the UPN. (No offense to fans of Enterprise. But seriously, if as many people watched Trek as the OC, it probably wouldn't be cancelled. By the way, three anonymous "fans" have donated $3 million to save it.)
