First Day at Bobby's
May. 23rd, 2003 08:18 pmIt seems as though it's been ages since I've been on a horse. But this one
experience made me feel rather at home in the saddle.
First off, it was nice to not be riding in a ring. We did a trail ride so
I actually got to go out and see things while riding. It was very relaxing,
except for the throbbing pain in my knees. But I actually felt safe and
comfortable doing a trot. The instructor, Rick, was a nice guy and very
patient. He rode with me, which makes sense on a trail ride. Clearly the
horse I was on was picking up some queues from the horse in front of him,
but he obeyed the commands I gave him. Pretty much stuck to direct reigning
as this particular horse doesn't respond to neck reigning very well.
It was the first time I'd spent an hour on horseback, so it was tiring. I
still can't post for shit, but apparently I got it right once. Maybe next
time.
I'll be joining a group lesson on Mondays. I just hope a weekend of faire
doesn't wear me out too much. Going to be weird enough having to come home
from faire and go to work early Monday morning, then to go riding. On the
upside, the lesson will be at 7pm which gives me time to go home, change
and maybe even eat. And I don't have to worry as much about traffic.
Gah! I smell like horse. I need a shower.
