I (barely) survived the weekend. It was hot... just like the weatherman promised.

Saturday was hot. Was told it was 94 degrees in the shade. THE SHADE!!!! But it was (relatively) dry.

Sunday was hot. Not as hot as Saturday. Was 104 or 107 with the humidity. Was VERY humid. Made it feel worse than Saturday.

The big difference for me was I didn't nearly die on Sunday. Saturday, I may have had a little heat stroke or something. It was enough that [livejournal.com profile] badgustav said, "Go lay down in the plague tent," after our last GBU show of the day. (BTW: John did fantastic as Edward.) Only other thing I was scheduled for that day was to help with the cheering at the final joust at 4pm. Around 4:30 or so I finally stood up. Yup, I missed the final joust. For the first time in my entire faire career, I bagged a show cause I felt like I was going to pass out or throw up. I had been sick and having allergy problems so breathing was already tough for me. I was coughing my way through "History of the Blade" (and spilled my Halls all over the stage too). I had so much trouble breathing, I thought I was going to die. I think the black head covering I was wearing was making things worse, even though it was preventing me from burning. (Thanks again to A and J who volunteered white things for me to use as a head cover on Sunday.) Thanks to several friends, including P, H and [livejournal.com profile] singingrenwench, I got hydrated, fed, and slept in air conditioning, albeit on the floor (my choice). I was fit and ready to go on Sunday.

Sunday was better for me, although worse for crowds. Heat and the news telling people to stay home kept the numbers low... very low. But it didn't seem to have much effect on the cast or any other performers. Grab them patrons up and get them entertained. I made it through both GBU shows and was there to cheer on the jousters for both Paragon shows. (This was the first time I've been at a Paragon show and not been on the field. I'm squiring next weekend.) I didn't feel great at the end of the day, but I felt okay. I also got smarter and ditched my doublet. And I had the cuffs on my sleeves cut open so I could roll up my sleeves. I also broke one of the ties on my pants which I did not do for the sake of being cooler. I did it cause I'm a nimrod. Luckily, my belt holds up my pants.

Went out for dinner with [livejournal.com profile] macalyster, his father, [livejournal.com profile] pyrateduvessa and others. Was good but didn't get on the road until 8pm. Got home around 10pm. Couldn't fall asleep until 2am. Then the phone rang and woke me up at 6am... had to get up and work... in a VERY hot apartment. Turned on the A/C and got to work.

Anyway. Big thanks go out to M who packed me lots of yummy food and lots of water. I even ate some of it. She takes such good care of me. :)

Looking forward to a week of not driving all over the damned place. Also looking forward to a weekend of cooler weather. It has to be cooler. Hopefully, temperatures in the 60s or 70s for the final two weekends (ya know, when I'm doing armored combat) which will make it easier to survive.

I also want to say I'm extremely disappointed that when I weighed myself this morning, I hadn't lost much weight. I thought I sweated out about 10 lbs of water. I guess I kept myself well hydrated.

Here's hoping for a good night's sleep tonight.
