Look... up in the sky...

I went to see Superman tonight. I loved it. From the moment opening credits rolled, I felt like I was 10 again.

I had a great time throughout this movie. I sensed early on the secret with the kid and wondered if/how they would reveal it or if they were just going to hint at it.

I loved the various bits that were throwbacks to things that happened in Superman I and II. The first scene where Clark becomes Superman is identical (from what I remember) to the first scene where he becomes Superman in the first movie.

Brandon Routh has a frightening resemblence to Christopher Reeves (whom, along with his wife, they dedicated this movie to.. which rocks). Kevin Spacey is brilliant as Luther. Parker Posey as Luther's girlfriend, Kitty Kawalski is great. It reminded me very much of Valerie Perrine's Eve Teschmacher in the first movie. Both wanted to be the girl of the bad boy but had true remorse when they learn of Luther's plans. I wonder what it would have been like with Gene Hackman as Luther.

As usual, the great investigative journalist Lois Lane can't see what's right in front of her. Even her 5 year old son and her fiance noticed a resemblence between Superdude and Superdud. But this movie at least explains why she never notices. She takes quite a few bumps on the head throughout. Probably really messes with her cognotive reasoning skills.

There were some great, truly funny moments throughout the movie. I either felt gripped in the drama of what was going on, or I was laughing out loud.

There was nothing spectacular about Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane. She seemed truly unspecial throughout the movie.

My favorite new character was Richard White. He is the fiance, or at least boyfriend, of Kate Bosworth. And he is a very sympathetic character at that. If he was a jerk in some way (which I kept expecting him to be exposed as) it'd be easy to root for Lois Lane and Superman to get together. But he's not. He's very likable, putting his own life in jeopardy for both Lois and Superman. He shows the imbodiment of being a hero. Superman is a hero because it's his destiny. Richard is a hero because he cares.

But Superman cares. He's a do-gooder who's only fault is an infacuation for a reporter. He's the hero we all need. He's the one who could bring peace to the planet. In a time when we need a hero, here's another Superman movie. He stands for truth, justice... (and they left out "the American way"... I wonder why).

The movie is some 2.5 hours long, I didn't feel like I was there nearly that long.

Right on brother! I thought it was better than all 4 of the originals. I can't wait to see it again! James Marsden who played Richard White, by the way, also played Cyclops in the X-Men films.

I felt the same way about the length; I was shocked to notice that I left the theatre 3 hours after arriving.

Mr. Marsden looked odd with eyes.

S and I saw it last night, too. Good, solid movie, definitely worth seeing in the theater.

James Marsden DOES look weird with eyes. I thought Kate Bosworth was a decent modern Lois Lane. She's got those independent sensibilities, while still sensitive. It is clear her toughness was a defense mechanism to falling for a guy who then left her without so much of a "see you in 5 years."

Parker Posey was wasted in this movie. I was disappointed with her lines and scenes. They gave her that same weird Pomeranian dog as in Blade III Trinity. I kept thinging she was going to eat it. Or IT was going to eat THEM. All she did was cry and hug the vamp dog.

Kevin Spacey was good. He wasn't as evil as I would have liked him to be. Some critics are shouting "Oscar." I don't think so. But he pulls off the urbane, egomaniacal, superbrain bad guy very well.

I very much liked the costumes. It was all modern, all if it you've seen SOMEBODY wear in an office somewhere, but they stayed true to the '50's style, especially with Lois. High pumps, long fitted skirts, blouses, vests nipped at the waist...They idd a very good job of blending 21st century technology and fashion while staying true to the iconic sensibilites of the '50s.

Re Brandon Routh: I read a 6'4" Tom Cruise type. He did a good job. Better costuming, and he had more of the superhero body than Christopher Reeve did. And they made him confused, a bit morally conflicted. Good.

Anybody catch the Spiderman preview? Looks like they are going dark with that next summer. Yay!

I want to know what Superman's costume is made of.

As for the Spiderman preview... I don't read comics, but even *I* know about Venom. :) Looks like it's going to be a must-see movie.

I can't wait to see this movie!

It amused me this weekend to see you play someone other than a nasty Italian. What was most amusing was that every time I saw you again, you had taken off another layer of the costume. Damn, was it humid or what?

First time I used the costume I wore different bits throughout the day. It's very versitile. Was made by Designs by J. The sleeves can tie onto the over doublet or the under doublet. They can be worn open. I kind of like doing the different looks throughout the day in it.

And thanks. :)
