The A/C unit in my apartment...

I have a Sears Coldspot Air Condition. Model 253-71420. I was beginning to wonder how old it was. I googled away.
In 1977, the Kenmore name replaced Coldspot as Sears' brand name on air conditioners.

My Air Conditioner is 30 years old... or more. Scary thing is you can still get parts for them from Sears. It claims to be 9600 BTU.

I want to replace it but I'm worried about fit. I'll pay for the replacement A/C unit if my landlord will a) make sure it's the right size and b) install it.

He may go for it. I still haven't managed to get him to replace/repair the dryer that doesn't work.

Wow. And I thought my 20-year old Teknika was old!

registered letter noting when repairs are expected, and that if repairs are not made by that date, you will undertake the repairs and deduct it from the rent.

if it's a big enough deal.

We're pretty happy with the new AC we got from Best Buy a few weeks ago. It's very efficient and is, IIRC, 8000BTU. EER is over 10. It's been working nicely over the past few weeks. It's still loud, like the old one, but I've no doubt at all that it's incredibly more efficient than the old one.

It's a Frigidaire. It fits most standard windows.

Your other option if you're concerned about fit is to buy a freestanding one with a vent - those are becoming more popular. Also makes it easier if it's a nice day and you just want the window open.

Good luck. It'll be so hot today that they're sending people home from work at noon. Wow.
