I've been contacted by a few people now about doing web design for them. I have no clue what to charge out. The site I have done the most work on most recently is http://www.paragonjousting.com

As an artist, my skills are lacking. As a webmaster, I'm pretty good.

So what the hell should I charge out?

The going rate for website design is $125 an hour.

Christ - really? US dollars? That's considerably more than I charge. Are you talking about for a big business or just a small, one-man shop?

That is what the company I was working for was charging their clients when I did work on their sites per hour.

You don't have to charge that much, BUT if you charge TOO little then people will believe you have no idea what you are doing. There is a balance in there somewhere.

I agree with all that (and I knew that $125/hour had to come from a big company).

I'll be honest with you, Redbeard - I really like your artwork, but I think your layout, navigation, coding, etc. could be better. However, I need to have a regular graphic artist. If you're interested, how much would you charge to just design the artwork for websites for my tiny company, and let me do all the coding, layout, architecture, etc? If you're interested, probably better to email me off-LJ - you know how to find me.

I constantly strive to improve my navigation, layout and coding. I've never been to school for any of it, so I do what I can until I have a chance/money to get schooling.

I think what I do for 2007 on the CTRF website will fix some of the issues you mention. One can only hope. ;)

If you want my suggestions on your 2007 redesign, I will donate my services for the betterment of all. However, I should warn you - I'm a brutally honest person, and tact is not my strong point (as you may well know...).

And if you don't want my comments, you know, that's fine too.

Send the comments. I haven't started doing anything yet. I am still planning stuff.

On my list, then. You likely won't see anything for a bit as I've got paying work to do, but in a few weeks I'll send 'em along...

Also, if you have some money to spend on books on design, I can suggest a few titles. "Don't Make Me Think" by Steven Krug is the first one that comes to mind...

I'll check it out. Thanks.
