Suit links MySpace to sex assaults
The problem is... YOUR CHILD IS AN IDIOT AND YOU'RE AN EVEN BIGGER ONE!!!!!!!!
Maybe if your 15 year old daughter wasn't displaying pictures of her ASS...
Maybe MySpace should just close it's doors to the under 18 crowd.

The lawsuit is just a way to point blame and perhaps make some cash. It is the American way and lure of easy money. Personally I think MySpace.com should file a countersuit and get the kids taken away from their parents who are negligent of their children's actions.

Date: 2007-01-19 12:25 pm (UTC)Absolutely. However, when the woman wearing the slinky outfit walks down the dark ally where several women have been raped by herself, she has done something amazingly stupid. While she may not be "asking for it" and she certainly doesn't "deserve it" she should not be particularly surprised at the outcome.
I mean, it's not like stories of teenagers being abuducted, molested, drugged, kidnapped, etc by people they meet over the Internet aren't all over the news. And it's certainly not the fault of MySpace that PervyMcPerv met up with HotTeen6969 who's parents don't pay a lick of attention to what their child does nor do they educate their child of the dangers of the real world.
My parents taught me not to take candy with strangers, don't get into cars with strangers, etc. The Internet is a world full of strangers and if their child is going to be on the Internet, some education by the parents is important.

You think she shouldn't be surprised and go on to indicate that there is universal awareness that teenagers are drugged etc. I doubt that there is universal awareness of the kind you describe. As for Myspace they earn revenue from placing ads and drawing people in. Pictures of pretty young women certainly don't hurt sales. I don't know that they are inviting a lawsuit but that was not what I was addressing, what I was addressing was "your child is an idiot."
It's wonderful that your parents did such a fine job raising you up. Not all parents are as competent of course, and even some competent parents are confused and uncertain about computers. Perhaps these parents are filing a lawsuit exactly because they wish to raise awareness.

Date: 2007-01-20 05:05 am (UTC)People need to start taking responsibility for their own actions and their own inactions. They cannot take every bit of bad that comes their way and try to get money out of someone else. It's like the kid with Tigger. He started shit with the guy in the costume and now the family wants to sue Disney. It isn't right and I hope Disney fights tooth and nail.
Kids are getting the wrong message. "If you're going to do something wrong, involve someone with deeps pockets so you can get rich when something bad happens."
There's a line in the movie "Blue Chips" with Nick Nolte. He's trying to recruit high school students to play college basketball for him. He runs a clean program. And the mother of one of the children is trying to extort a better job and a house out of him to get her son to play at his school. He asks he she's going to teach him about what he's going to be if he learns it's okay to break the rules.
Her response, "Rich?"
