Roomba Madness

My Roomba was no longer holding a charge. So I did what anyone would do. I bought a new battery. I put in the battery, let it charge up. When the power light turned green, I started it up and it did its job.

Back on the charger, the new battery isn't charging. I've now plugged the charger directly into the Roomba (instead of the base) and the power light slowly glows on and off red, never turning green.

I think this is a bad sign. :(

May have just been a false end-of-charge detection with the new battery. How long has it been charging the second time? It should take 6 hours max (3 max if you have a grey charger). Once it's done, unplug the charger, remove the battery, then put the battery back in and try charging again. It _should_ stop charging (turn green) in about 10 minutes this time, meaning it knows the battery is full.

If that doesn't fix it, it's possible the charging transistor in the roomba is blown, i've heard of that happening. Call the iRobot tech support line for help in that case.

I'll give tech support a call. Between the two charging attempts I did remove the battery and attempt to discharge the Roomba by holding down the power button.

Thought about trying the original battery again. It wasn't getting much of a charge but was getting something. I'd be sad if the new battery was no good.

Thanks for the suggestions.

And then when I looked this morning, the light was green. We had a power outage while I was at work so maybe it changed then. I'll run it tonight and see how it goes.

Red ring of Roomba death?
